Uuuhhhhmmm....yeah....

I'm flummoxed. So much so that I had to use the word "flummoxed."
I thought it was interesting when news media tackled First Lady, Michelle Obama's decision to bare her arms [insert fake gasp here] but she's gone and done it now by...wait for it....keep waiting...it's coming...
...wearing shorts.

If you haven't passed out yet, look back up at the flick.
Are you afraid?
Were you frightened into minimizing the screen to flee images of loose women?

Probably not.

The break down:

1. women wear shorts
2. Michelle Obama is a woman (albeit a Black woman unlike the White House has ever seen nor knows what to do with)
3. women are human beings
4. human beings (in this country) have [the illusion of] freedom of choice
5. she was hiking
6. in the Grand Canyon
7. which is in ARIZONA
8. in the month of August
9. with her children

Back to being flummoxed.
A woman in shorts is not news, even when she's Black and the First Lady. Even if she weren't with her family in the summer heat of Arizona hiking a canyon, Mrs. Obama in shorts is not news. What might be news is why some of the former First Ladies chose not to live as people. I'm with Michelle, my elder sister in spirit. Living in a bubble with young children is not what's up. Giving up my life altogether is not what's up. Bringing some humanity and some (dare I say it) keep-it-real-ism to the image of what a First Family can and should be: Parents setting a positive example and being protective of their children while showing them the world IS what's up. Point blank. Period.

It was news once in my neighborhood when I wore a mini dress and strolled to the grocery store. I feel the same way about this that I felt about that--I was grown (& paid for the dress myself) and so is she.

Watch her move.
