Shoe Personality of the Week: 3/14/2011

In honor of the beginning of my 36th year on the planet, one of the gifts I decided to give myself was the opportunity to disappear with good company and do something I've never done before. The goal was to learn to snowboard. After the the long and winding drive through intense darkness, wind tunnels, random precipitation, and ice, learning to do something new had fallen waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay down on the rungs of importance. More than anything, I was moved by the concepts of stillness & laughter, good food & fun. None of those words begin with an "S" or end in "G."

I opted out of snowboarding and went for the Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour. The website reeled me in with this:
If you've ever wondered what it would be like to soar among the trees, then have we got a surprise for you! Introducing the new Flying Squirrel Canopy Tour! This is the first challenge course canopy tour of its kind in the Deep Creek Lake area offering amazing tree-top views, agility challenges and 5 breathtaking zips from 180 feet to over 400 feet!

I'm still confused about having both feet attached to the same board--I came up on skiing. The thrill of jumping off high ledges loosely anchored to the ground seemed like more of a thrill. So, I went for it. & WHAT GREAT FUN!! I'd like to take a second to thank my friends who also got over themselves & got their zip-lining on. WE ROCK!!

Not sure I'm coming back around for snowboarding but...I'm inspired after finding these:

You can be fly doing EVERYTHING!!

Watch me move.
