Music Challenge: Day 3
Day 3: A song that makes you happy
Saturday mornings, & sometimes the afternoons, were cleaning time in my house growing up. My parents played whatever got them through during those times. We all know the power music has to help us get over the hump. There's a huge difference between cleaning with & cleaning without music; hell, there's a difference between doing just about EVERYTHING with or without music.
Well, Da Mudda had a thing for Dr. Buzzard & the Sunshine Band. I used to sit for what seemed like hours staring at the album cover as the record--YES, the record--played in the background. There were a few songs on the album that I would go & lift the needle to play them back, but Sunshowers was my favorite. I don't know what kind of little girl I was, unable to describe myself in retrospect, but I had a serious thing for relationship songs. Wait, every song is a relationship song, just about. Love songs GOT ME!!
The sound of the rain & the intriguing voices opening the song always grabbed my attention. I can see myself laying on my stomach holding the album cover singing along. & I knew ALL the words. I lay there listening to this woman sing about making everything she does be in order to glorify some Him. Now that I think about it...it's kinda the predecessor to BeBe & CeCe Winans or Mary Mary & artists like them, singing to some other more omnipotent being than a random dude. The sun...sunshowers...incredible acts. "Sunshowers/ just the sign of the power/ of loving you/ oh Bay-bee." Yeah, that definitely sounds a little praise-worthy. There were no white gloves in this video but somebody's being worshiped for their good lovin' & that can apparently be taken any way you need to.
All these years later, we won't bother with exactly how many, this song still makes me happy. Have a piece.
Watch me groove.
