Music Challenge: Day 21
Day 21- a song you listen to when you're happy
1st of all, the girl crush I have on Erykah Badu is enough for me to have to toss her into the mix at some point. More than that though, she's just an incredible artist & woman to me. & this is coming from someone who wasn't #allaway in when she 1st dropped. Yeah, I liked the music & all but the monumental gelee (gay-lay) (=headwrap) & the wallking Triple 5 Soul ad of it all was just a bit much for my spirit. She was everything folks assumed I was, on some Pseudo Mama Africa type business. Not me. Sorry to disappoint. & it seems that YeYe was only the stage she was in then. YeYe has grown up, had some BeBe's (bay-bay if you ain't know) & expanded her artistry. I honestly thought the sista was limited in range & ability upon her debut. She has since proven me W.R.O.N.G. on so many levels. I appreciate being proven wrong in this instance. It means I benefit.
I Want You is just so funky. & it has all kindsa 1-liners that completely match me or how I've felt about something or an approach I've had to wanting some You out there. What does this have to with happiness? Well, when somebody gets you open enough to even say some of these things, it's generally a happy feeling. I sometimes need to reflect on what this feels like when I'm in a state of selfishness, allowing myself to be the only 1 who showers me with love, or when I'm TOTALLY underwhelmed by the Hims that are out there vying for my attention. Last Summer was such a season, in case you missed it here, here, & here.
As I was saying...
This song makes me happy & I play it when I'm feeling happy. Now it's your turn to enjoy (about 6 minutes shy of it's actual length on the World Wide Underground album).
Watch me groove.

i have nevah heard this. well, there's a lot of stuff i nevah heard but i used to love her when she first came out and i fell off. a combination of me not being able to hang and moving on with my own adult business. plus, i didn't want her to have an effect on me like andre 3000 and common. this was nice live. she is the mistress of some intense sultry looks, ain't she?
