Music Challenge: Day 29
Day 29- a song from your childhood
To this day, when I think about my childhood & music, I always think back to my FAVORITE song when I was a little girl. I don't know what it is about this group, but The Emotions sang something in or on my spirit. When I hear them now, I still get transported to the way I felt EVERY time Best of My Love came on. Pulling up the video for you just now brought me so much joy. It's another piece to the puzzle that this challenge has helped me piece together. I've apparently been all about Love since Day 1. Something in me came here ready for what this Love business is all about. Self Love--had to grow into that. Familial Love--continues to unfold. Girl on Boy Love--forever a mystery.
This song 1st spoke to me when I was 3 years old. That's right. THREE. Nearly four score later, it still speaks to me. & much like any good song that stands the test of time, the lyrics are like an onion & the layers keep peeling back. The idea of the "best of my love" swirls around heavily right now. It gives me pause to contemplate who I've loved over the years & the ways in which that love manifested. No 2 relationships are the same, or shouldn't be. Despite being pre-programmed do to be deeply connected to Love, I really do wonder WHY this song meant so much to me as a little girl. I hung onto it as my favorite song for a LONG time.
I don't know if you know this 1 or loved it, but here's your chance to be introduced to it or dig into it 1 more time.
& a bonus track by the ladies. I loved this 1 too. I spent a lot of time staring at this album cover along with Dr. Buzzard & The Sunshine Band. These were indeed the days.
Watch me groove.

Hey Girl Hey,
ReplyDeleteSo I don't quite remember listening to songs at 3 but I do remember music constantly playing when I was young. My mom is a bit of a music freak, which is awesome actually! I credit her for my fantabulous taste is music. My earliest song memory of a song that just stuck with me and I still enjoy to this day is Everlasting by Natalie Cole. I effs with Natalie Cole, smack addiction and all.
This post reminded me that I don't have that entire album on my iPod...check ya later I'm on my way to iTunes friend!
you know, i've heard this song many-a-time but can only sing along with the chorus. it's one of those songs with a rhythm that's infectiously upbeat. you don't even need to have heard it before to sing along with some level of success. even so, i just want to share the lyrics cause it makes the song even better:
ReplyDeleteDoesn't take much to make me happy
And make me smile with glee
Never, never will I feel discouraged
'Cause our love's no mystery
Demonstrating love and affection
That you give so openly, yeah
I like the way ya make me about you, baby
Want the whole wide world to see
Whoa, whoa, you've got the best of my love
Whoa, whoa, you've got the best of my love
Whoa, whoa, you've got the best of my love
Whoa, whoa, you've got the best of my love
Goin' in and out of changes
The kind that come around each day
My life has a better meaning
Love has kissed me in a beautiful way
Oooooooh, yea (my love, my love)
Oooooooh, yea (my love, my love)
Oh, you've got the best of my love
Whoa, whoa, you've got the best of my love
Whoa, whoa, you've got the best of my love
Whoa, whoa, you've got the best of my love
Demonstrating sweet love and affection
That you give so openly, yeah
The way I feel about ya, baby
Can't explain it
Want the whole wide world to see
Oooooooh, but in my heart
You're all I need
You for me and me for you
Oooooooh, it's growin' every day
Oooooooh
Ooooooooh, oh oh oh oh oh
You've got the best of my love
Ooooooooh, oh oh oh oh oh
You've got the best of my love
Ooooooooh, givin' you the best of my love
My love
Ooooooooh, my love
Oooooooh, givin' you the best of my love
My love oooooooh, oh yeah
Oooooooh, oh oh oh oh oh
You've got the best of my love
