& hot stepped it past
as though you weren’t

i never even glanced
over your application
before noticing it was in
the trash

here you are
again
uniformed & ready
to steal me from myself
behind my back
& under my very nose
applying for the job
before i even considered posting
HELP WANTED signs

you’ve been on the job
less than a week
& already you are
EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH
sneaky brown-noser,
do-gooding,
ladder climber

my heels are kicked up
on my desk
watching you work
& work me
glad to have the POSITION FILLED
for however long
your work is good
